Steve Wardlaw is an international energy and business expert, with thirty years of legal practice and financial services experience. He started at Slaughter and May, with his first major role advising the newly-privatised UK electricity market. Before his change of careers he ran the London and Moscow offices of a Texas law firm, and spent 8 years in Moscow doing multi-billion dollar project developments in the oil and gas sectors. He has worked on deals, or drafted energy legislation, in more than 20 countries.

Since 2016 he has been chairman of Emerald Life, an insurer he founded that works for equality within the financial services sector. He also actively supports the development of a number of future Labour politicians. 

In his spare time, Steve is a Charlton Athletic season ticket holder, an active dog-walker, and a collector of classic cars.
